Exhaust Help Required

Postby princey » Sat May 29, 2010 6:17 pm

Watsup guys

Hope everyones doing well,

I drive a 1996 Toyota Conquest 1300 (everything stock)

All i want is my exhaust to sound nice. I'm not really interested in performance gains of any sort, I just
want the exhaust to have a 'growling' / 'roaring' noise. Not too loud, but loud enough to irritate my father-in law.

My Question is this, will just welding on an aftermarket exhaust tip, give me what i require??

Many thanks gents

well i think you can change the rear silencer or just fit a free flow system.

What would be the approximate cost of a free flow system, and would you recommend any
fitment centers in Durban.

thanks Guys

hi-jack..dont performance exhausts reduce the life of your engine..i heard they cause excessive heat on the exhaust valve stem seals

Hey dude, you can put free-flow boxes especially the last box and decat your exhaust if it has a catalytic converter. Stainless steel F-flow boxes are like R360 last I checked and a dutchman at the exhaust place here in PTA told me something interesting, he said the exhaust system can only enhance the noise made at the engine, so if you want your exhaust to growl than there must be a bit of growl at your engine (in otherwords an induction kit will great improve your exhaust note)

if you car is fuel injected.... an induction will sound nice

if your car is carbd, induction will not make a diff...

i would suggest putting a branch with a 48mm free flow with 3 or 2 boxes, this will give u some extra power as well as give u that growl u looking for.....

nemo sorry to burst you bubble but the more boxes the longer it takes for your exhaust gases to get out your system and there for loss of power..the trick is to try scavange your combustion chambers clean

Taking all the boxes out guys, would that cause any damage to the engine?

how much noise do you want to make?
I myself would go with a stainless steel exhaust box.
Up here in jhb i would recommend ace motor sport or noise boys.
Remap your feul once you are done

man you are giving some seriously screwed up advice, this isn't rocket science, its an exhaust for crying out loud, you don't need to remap anything!

and the boxes don't make it take longer to exit the engine lol, thats all down to the restrictiveness of the branches and diameter of the pipe, if you use freeflow boxes then they allow you to "tune" the noise to what you want and remove the unwanted droning, the size of the boxes is important...

don't over complicate something simple...
SQ is only as hard as you make it...
