Golf engine swap.VR6 or R32

Postby MOTOCROSS WANABE » Sat Dec 12, 2009 8:18 pm

Howzit guys..

Im going to start with an engine conversion on my golf, but i dont know what motor to fit, I have a twincam motor lying around but i am looking at a r32 or vr6 motor. But i dont see alot of vr6 motors being tweaked. And I also wana know what other gearbox would work when doing this, the car will get a new motor, new gearbox, full brake system(going to try and get one off a m3) , new mags and tyres, interior and some other bits and pieces, anybody that can give me some advice thanks.

First off, what Golf is it?
Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, Mk6?

You will have to run a VR6 gearbox as the bolt holes where the 'box bolts to the motor are different to other VW gearboxes. The VR6 uses a "02A" cable shift gearbox. If you can pick up a motor + 'box, go for it.
The VR also uses 100mm diameter inner CV joints, so there is a possibility that on a Mk1 and certain Mk2's, custom sideshafts will have to be made up.

Or if you have a Mk2 Golf, you could find a complete Mk3 VR6 motor + gearbox + mountings + subframe and bolt the whole lot into the Mk2
